Journey project

We started this 3 weeks project in the month of December, to begin the project we were asked to go around our cities and observe and understand our surroundings and perform a bunch of activities to do so. This activity helped me point out the needs in my city and things I could design to solve them. My initial plan was to create an electronically handled fast driving lane for the medical emergency vehicles however I did not find that idea too indulging and that’s why I decided to do further research and finalized on creating fitness stations around my city with different activities to indulge the audience. This idea was inspired by the ongoing fitness challenge in my city which i observed while i went out and took a small tour of my city finding potential ideas.

To move further with the building of the project I thought of different activities that could combine fitness with daily activities that are done by the commoners in Dubai. I concluded with a bunch of activities however, i decided to solely focus on one and decided to create a bus stop with an exercise function to keep the population fit while focusing on their daily life activities. Next, I started on creating a few different designs for the structure of the bus stop and experimented with a few designs, and looked for potential spaces it could be placed in. I further created digital drawings along with the scale to see how it would look while being in function. I decided to make a curved shaped bus stop as it goes with the metro architecture of Dubai and would look good with the other public transport facilities in the city. After the digital drawings and the paper sketches i decided to move on to making the final model and decided to make it with a plastic bottle and cardboard. The difficult part of the model making was carving out the plastic bottle to make the desired shape however after a few tries I could get the desired shape i wanted and attached it to the cardboard to form the structure i wanted to create. I used a toy car to show the scale of the structure.

Overall, this project helped me understand how to solve problems when they appear and how to design for certain needs when they arise. I enjoyed this project as i was potentially building a structure for my city and so it was easier for me to think about the different needs of my city and how i could alter my design to fit that.
